In this class students read stories and look at pictures about the life of Minimus the Mouse. Minimus lives in the house of a human family at Vindolanda, a Roman fort lying just to the south of Hadrian’s Wall in Britain. While reading about Minimus, students learn all about how Romans and their language, Latin, influenced English speakers by their presence in Britain for more than 350 years. Students learn about cultural topics such as food, school, history, geography and mythology from the point of view of Minimus as he watches the people interact.

Elementary Latin students at Geneva Academy also have an introduction to Latin grammar; but unlike the high school students, they will learn the points which best reinforce what they are learning about literary English, the English which is foreign to English speakers until they go to school. Like the high school students, elementary students will learn Latin words which give us English vocabulary.
